We began the meeting with a moment of silence for the life of Edward Downing who passed away on Feb 10th. He was a natural motivator and people gravitated toward him. He spent 46 years in music education, was president of the Interlochen Center for the Arts, and eventually lead the Traverse Symphony Orchestra for 5 years. He was a Rotarian for 40 years, served on the Club board, as Club President 05-06, on the Charities board, and then as Charities President in 2011.
Please send any condolences you have to Joyce Downing.

Cindy Ruzak shared over Zoom her thoughts of gratitude and reflection. Love is all about making connections, it's the light in this world that binds us together, from Rabbi Chava Bahle's teachings. She had everyone hold hands for a Happy Valentine's day show of love.
Our Rotarian's guests and exchange students were introduced by Tony Anderson.
The extra lovely Kingsley Trio plus Saki, Ida, Olivia, and Noe sang Hey, Good Lookin' - by Hank Williams.
The Fundraiser Gala committee accompanied by the Kingsley Trio shared their catchy jingle to get you ready for the Mighty Rotary Chorus. "Shindigs in May... 18th's the day... so bring your cash and make your way... to the opera house for the Rotary Gala... come do Good Works! Sign Up Today!"
Contact Connor Miller to join in Chorus. They really need some more Bass singers but all ranges are welcome!
Al Bonney led Happy Bucks and still no one is happier than Paul LaPorte since Jep had to carry his bass in instead. Ramona was also happy about the turnout for the Blood Drive.
Michael Caruso reflected on the fun learn to curl session he went to along with some fellow Rotarians. If at least 16 people are interested, there could be a 5-week Learn to Curl program which would help determine and teach the Rotary Curling Team for the league.
President Marlene reminded everyone needing leadership training to sign up for Leadership Fundamentals on MyRotary.com. Ideally, there will be a study group to discuss each topic and even present some findings to the club.
Steps: Sign-in to https://my.rotary.org/en/ > LEARNING & REFERENCE > Learning Center > Proffessional Development > Leadership Fundamentals
Michael Caruso came right back up to introduce our program speakers from the American Red Cross, Megan Powers and our very own Michelle Gallagher.
The 50/50 winning sum was $43 and was donated back with love by Jep Gruman .

Please look out for Kurt Rivard or Rebecca Teahen to purchase your tickets at the meetings. Cash is preferred but checks can be made out to the Rotary District 6290.
Our club has been involved with Safe Passage for many years--this short video provides a great overview of this live-changing program!
The World Community Service Committee is working with Safe Passage leadership to create a one-week service learning opportunity for our club members, probably in the fall. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Lorrain Beers lorrainembeers@gmail.com, Tome Petzold petzoldtm@goacentek.net, or Linda Racine linbracine@gmail.com.
Mark your Calendars for our partnership with Goodwill's Food Rescue from 9 am-12 pm on the last Thursday of every month. Our club has a long history of service with this great organization. (Not to mention a few of our club members helped found it!)
Volunteer duties will mostly include repackaging bulk frozen food into family-sized meals for redistribution around Northern Michigan.
This is an appropriate volunteer activity for club members of all physical ability levels. Family and friends (even prospective club members...) over the age of 18 are also welcome.
The next club volunteer shift will be Thursday, February 23rd from 9 am to 12 pm. We are hoping to have at least 6 volunteers.
