We will be meeting next on August 22nd at the Hagerty Center. The program will be about Youth Works brought to us by Amanda Scott
Amanda is a current Rotarian and the YouthWork AmeriCorps Director at Child and Family Services of NW Michigan. Amanda graduated from James Madison College of Public Policy at Michigan State University.
Amanda has worked for the nonprofit Child & Family Services for the past eight years. In 2018, she helped launch their newest program, YouthWork Industries, a statewide workforce development program that teaches job and life skills to young adults through service-based learning.
While with YouthWork, crews go out into their local community and complete hands-on conservation and skilled trades projects for nonprofits and government agencies. They earn money, skills, certifications, and scholarships as they plant trees, remove invasive species, restore historic structures, build and maintain trails, and learn how to use tools and work together as a team.
Amanda has served on several local boards including the Leelanau County Housing Action Committee, and the Leelanau County Solid Waste Council, and spent eight years serving on planning commissions. She currently serves as the Chair of the Grand Traverse County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority and on the Wheels of Hope Committee.

Flight To End Polio has returned home safe and sound! Peter and John returned on Sunday, July 30 around 9am to the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids in their Cessna T210M single-engine airplane after this 90-day around-the-world mission to raise awareness for polio eradication. The pilots are now enjoying time with family and getting some much-deserved rest.
Video of the plane taxiing to the flight's final stop can be viewed here. This also includes a bit of video from inside the plane, just after landing. A recap of the last few days of the flight is highlighted in the newsletter. Now is a great time to consider supporting these great Rotarian’s contribution to eradicating polio.
Flight to End Polio received this quote from the team that hosted the pilots in India. Kindness continues to flow around the world! This is a good quote to keep in mind in the fight to End Polio Now.
