Impact on Region
Historically:
Under the auspices of Camps and with funding from Rotary Charities, the following regional nonprofit organizations were incubated:
- Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy
- Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation
- NorthSky Nonprofit Network
- HomeStretch
Demonstrating innovation and commitment to the greater good, Rotary Camps & Services, with funding support provided by Rotary Charities, started a new organization. HomeStretch is our region’s first nonprofit housing developer. This success of this organization was heavily influenced by the leadership role that Rotary Camps & Services played in HomeStretch’s formative years. The Camps & Service’s board helped recruit the new organization’s founding board members and provided guidance for its strategic direction. Camps & Services also invested some of the funds from its own portfolio towards HomeStretch’s start-up costs and additional
housing surveys required by State of Michigan funding sources. This marked the beginning of Rotary Camps & Services’ 10 year investment of both time and treasure to help address the need for affordable housing in the region. To date, HomeStretch has invested over $13.3 million in private and public funds to support the creation of over 100 affordable homes in the region.
