“There are no other professional development courses that are as relevant, hands-on and real as this.”

Our Philosophy
Leadership Learning Lab was created in response to a need identified by Northern Michigan’s Community Foundations to connect and empower nonprofit leaders. The Frey Foundation, eleven Northern Michigan Community Foundations and Rotary Charities came together to fund and craft an 8-month cohort program that would combine adaptive leadership training and nonprofit capacity building, while creating a network of support among nonprofit leaders.

“Honestly, I’m still pinching myself at the opportunity to grow our nonprofit leaders. It’s been on my bucket list for years.”

Tammy Carrey, Oceana Community Foundation

Our Approach
Leadership Learning Lab helps to build stronger communities by empowering Northern Michigan’s leaders. Participants become more aware of their current leadership style, discuss the differences between management and leadership, and explore the importance of adaptive leadership today. In each learning session, participants learn concrete new skills from experienced facilitators and then take time to practice and experiment together with a supportive circle of peers.

“The Leadership Learning Lab experience has been incredibly valuable in giving me the tools and confidence I need to become an emerging leader in my organization. Having built-in opportunities to explore content in a classroom setting and then apply it in my day to day have made this a truly immersive experience. The opportunity to learn and share with peers has allowed me to build relationships that I am certain will last beyond the eight sessions.”
