Capacity-building services for our region

NorthSky Nonprofit Network is a program of Rotary Charities of Traverse City, providing the region’s nonprofits, governmental units and social enterprises with consulting, professional development, coaching services, tools and other resources to help build their capacity and support their sustainability.
NorthSky also serves as a conduit for new resources to the region, securing state and national support and establishing partnerships designed to bring technical and financial resources to area nonprofits and social enterprises. As part of Rotary Charities’ mission, NorthSky frequently serves in a leadership role, participating in and facilitating regional initiatives.

NorthSky’s Core Services

NorthSky Nonprofit Network offers services in the areas shown below. In addition, we administer the regional regranting program – also known as the minigrant program – for Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, which provide funding assistance for regional arts and culture projects in ten counties in northwest Michigan.

NorthSky’s customized consulting services strengthen nonprofits. Our carefully vetted and experienced team of consultants has the proven expertise to guide a wide range of projects including comprehensive strategic planning, business plan development, organizational assessments, community need assessments, financial analysis and feasibility studies. Every consultant in our network has access to our best tools, templates and the knowledge base of the rest of the group.

NorthSky Consultants are independent contractors who subcontract with NorthSky to implement consulting contracts, providing the flexibility to bring the best team of experts and NorthSky resources to benefit every engagement. Take a look at our NorthSky Consultant bios here.

Professional Development

In an increasingly fast-paced changing environment, it is essential that nonprofit staffs and volunteers continue to grow and hone their skills and knowledge. The NorthSky professional development series provides a variety of learning vehicles including workshops and webinars on a wide range of topics to help meet this need.

Free Organizational Counseling

The NorthSky team is available to meet with your organization for limited, free business counseling sessions. Sessions can cover a wide spectrum of topics for organizations in all stages of development including administration, management, finances, fundraising, and governance. These sessions should not be confused as free consulting or legal services. They are discussion/ advice sessions to prepare your team to do the further work you need to do.

NorthSky’s service area includes the counties of Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee and Wexford. Within this predominantly rural area, more than 2000 nonprofit organizations serve sectors that include arts and culture, education, environment, faith-based, health care and social services. IMG_4679
